Accessibility Statement
How we approach accessibility on RetroFit Leeds, what we aim for, and how to tell us about a problem.
Our commitment
We want RetroFit Leeds to be usable by as many people as possible, including those who rely on assistive technology or who navigate the web in other non-mouse, non-pointer ways. Energy efficiency information and grant eligibility checks are particularly important to people who may benefit most from straightforward, accessible content — including older homeowners and people on lower incomes — so accessibility matters to us as part of the product.
What we aim for
We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA across the site. In practice, that means:
- Content can be read by screen readers, with semantic headings, proper landmarks, and meaningful alt text on images that convey information.
- Pages can be navigated using a keyboard alone, including all menus, filters, forms and links.
- Text contrast meets WCAG 2.2 AA thresholds.
- Forms have visible labels, clear error messages, and don’t rely on colour alone to convey meaning.
- Content reflows for use at 200% zoom and on small screens without loss of information.
- We write in plain English and explain technical terms when we use them.
Known limitations
We have not yet had this site independently audited.
We have built it against WCAG 2.2 AA but have not commissioned a third-party accessibility audit. There may be issues we are not aware of. If you find one, please tell us — we will fix it.
Some content on the site links out to third-party websites (council pages, accreditation registers, government services). We do not control the accessibility of those sites.
Report an accessibility problem
If you can’t use part of this site because of an accessibility problem, please tell us. Email enquiries@retrofitleeds.com with “Accessibility” in the subject line. Please include:
- The URL of the page you were on.
- The browser and any assistive technology you were using.
- What you were trying to do and what went wrong.
We aim to acknowledge within 5 working days and to fix any reported issue as soon as we reasonably can.
Technical details
This site is built with semantic HTML, uses native form controls where possible, and is statically generated — meaning page content is available without requiring JavaScript to load. Some interactive components (filters, navigation menus) require JavaScript to function.
If you have suggestions for improving accessibility on the site, we’d welcome them at the same address.
