How We Vet Providers
Every provider in our directory goes through a selection and verification process. Here is how we decide who to list and how we keep our information current.
Our Vetting Process
Step 1.Identification & Research
We identify potential providers through industry databases, accreditation body registers, local business directories, and recommendations. We research each provider's background, accreditations, and track record before they are considered for listing.
Step 2.Accreditation Verification
We verify that providers hold the accreditations they claim. This includes checking TrustMark, MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme), PAS 2030, PAS 2035, FENSA, and other relevant industry certifications against the issuing body's public registers.
Step 3.Service & Coverage Confirmation
We confirm the services each provider offers, the areas they serve within West Yorkshire, and their contact details. This ensures the information in our directory is accurate and that providers are genuinely active in the areas listed.
Step 4.Ongoing Review
Listings are periodically reviewed to check that accreditations remain current, contact details are correct, and the provider is still actively operating in their stated service area. We also monitor for any significant complaints or issues that may affect a listing.
What We Check
What We Do Not Do
We believe in being transparent about the scope and limitations of our vetting process. Here is what our review does not cover:
We encourage homeowners to carry out their own due diligence, obtain multiple quotes, check references, and verify insurance and warranties directly with any provider before commissioning work.
What we publish per listing
On every provider page we publish a “What we checked” panel showing the specific checks we’ve carried out, the result, where they were sourced from, and when each check was last done. The structure is consistent:
- What — a short label describing the check, for example “TrustMark membership” or “Companies House status”.
- Result — one of: confirmed, pending (scheduled but not yet completed), unable to verify (no public register available), or failed (claim could not be substantiated).
- Source — a link to the public register or page where the check was performed, so you can re-verify it yourself.
- Date — the date that specific check was last done. Re-checks happen on an ongoing review cycle.
For providers we have not yet performed a structured per-check audit on, the panel shows a single summary entry reflecting the date the listing as a whole was last verified.
Featured Providers
Some providers are marked as “Featured” in our directory. All providers, whether featured or not, go through the same core vetting process described above — nothing about the verification, accreditation check or factual description of a provider changes between featured and standard tiers.
The Featured tier is a paid placement: featured providers may appear higher on directory and area pages and on the homepage’s featured-provider section. Every featured placement is clearly labelled Featured. See our affiliate & commercial disclosure for the full detail.
